Tired Eyes

Eyes that ache or blur after hours at a screen are usually being asked to hold one focal distance for too long. It is rarely serious, but persistent strain can point to an uncorrected prescription worth checking.

Understanding tired eyes

Tired eyes – or eye strain – describe the aching, heavy or fatigued feeling that often follows long periods of focusing, particularly on screens or close work. It is very common and usually harmless, but persistent strain can signal an uncorrected vision problem.

If your eyes tire easily, it is worth having them assessed. An underlying refractive error such as long-sightedness or astigmatism is a frequent, and very treatable, cause.

What causes tired eyes?

Eye strain is commonly caused by extended screen time, reading in poor light, or driving for long periods. Uncorrected long-sightedness, astigmatism and early presbyopia make the eyes work harder and tire more quickly.

A simple assessment can identify whether a correctable vision problem is behind your tired eyes.
