EDOF Lenses
Instead of separate focal points, an EDOF lens creates one continuous zone of sharpness. Contrast stays strong and night-time halos are less common, which suits screen work and driving. Small print may still call for reading glasses.

About EDOF lenses
EDOF (Extended Depth Of Focus) lenses are an advanced premium lens that provides a continuous, extended range of clear vision – particularly strong for distance and intermediate tasks such as driving and screen work – with excellent quality and minimal glare.
They are a popular choice for patients who want a natural range of vision with a low risk of night-time haloes, and can be an ideal alternative or complement to trifocal lenses.
How it works
Personalised planning
We assess your eyes and lifestyle to determine whether EDOF suits your visual needs.
Lens implantation
The natural lens is replaced with your EDOF lens in a gentle 15-minute procedure per eye.
Adapt & enjoy
You enjoy a smooth, extended range of vision that settles over the following weeks.
Monofocal lenses
A monofocal lens is a single-vision lens that remedies cataract.
Monofocal lenses can remedy cataract by replacing the eye's natural lens. A monofocal lens is a custom-made lens with one focal point, which means reading glasses are still needed afterwards.
If you also want to be rid of reading glasses, you can instead have a multifocal (trifocal) lens, which has three focal points, so both short-sightedness and long-sightedness disappear at the same time as the cataract is treated.
Add-on lenses
EuroEyes can offer patients an add-on lens if they have already had a cataract treatment (in which the lens was exchanged), or if fine-tuning is needed after a multifocal lens exchange, so that in future neither distance nor reading glasses are required.
Method
After a thorough initial assessment, the eye's power is measured, and the new lens is calculated and ordered. The new add-on lens is then inserted, in a brief and fully outpatient procedure, in front of the previously implanted lens.
The new lens is specially made to be gentle on the eye. At the same time, it is designed to sit stably and securely in the sulcus (the space between the iris and the lens).
There is long and positive experience with this lens type, which has proven to deliver truly good results. EuroEyes can guarantee good quality, and safety is very high. The lens can be adjusted in steps as small as 0.25 D, and 0.75 D for astigmatism, which is more precise than the vast majority of other lens types.
Who is suitable?
People with previously implanted lenses.
People who wish to perfect and improve the eye's visual acuity without glasses, making spectacle correction unnecessary.
What do you achieve?
The lens can correct both distance and reading vision, so you can see without glasses at distance and near. Good lighting is important, however, as it makes reading easier.
Most people choose to have the add-on lens inserted in both eyes, so both eyes can read and support each other. A few, however, are used to using their eyes more individually and may have had monovision with contact lenses before the treatment (one eye sees at distance, the other reads); for these people, inserting a reading lens in one eye only (the eye they are used to using as their reading eye) can be considered.
Around 50% can adapt to such a solution, so this balance between the eyes should first be tried out with a contact lens before the add-on lens is inserted in one eye only.
A patient's account
“As a tradesman, I can now stand in my workshop and mark up measurements on what needs cutting without taking my glasses off and on. I can see without anything fogging up or needing constant cleaning … probably one of the best things I have ever done! It is much better than when I got the new lenses after my cataract treatment.”

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between EDOF and trifocal lenses?

Many patients manage most tasks without glasses; some use light reading glasses for very fine print.
Are EDOF lenses good for night driving?
Yes – they are designed to minimise haloes, which many patients value for night driving.
Is the procedure permanent?
Yes – the lens replacement is a permanent correction.
